Tai Cymdogaeth Extra Care Agency
Tai Cymdogaeth provide a 24 hour intensive home care service for residents living at Llys y Werin, Gorseinon and Plas y Mor, Burry Port. We are looking forward to a new scheme which is on it's way in Llanybydder in 2010. Residents who receive the service live in ordinary flats in a lively community with other older people who may or may not need help to live independently. We aim to work with residents to help maintain their independence for as long as possible in their own flats.
We can help with a variety of tasks including:
- Getting dressed
- Assisting with medication
- Making meals
- Cleaning and laundry
- Taking a bath or a shower
These services are delivered by skilled care assistants in the resident's own flat.
However, Tai Cymdogaeth cannot provide a trained nurse - if you think you may require nursing home care you should talk to a scheme manager about your needs.
Tai Cymdogaeth Extra Care Agency's Statement of Purpose
How can I receive this service?
You will need to apply for housing with Tai Cymdogaeth. Once you are on the waiting list, you will be seen by a social worker who will check that you are eligible for the extra care service and discuss your needs with our scheme manager. When a vacancy arises you will be considered by a panel that administers extra care vacancies.
How much does it cost?
Charges may vary, but as an example, in 2006 we charge rent and service charges of between £80-£100 per week. This includes
- heating
- hot water and
- water rates
but doesn't cover
- council tax
- electricity
- telephone bills
In addition, the attendance allowance of either £40.55 or £60.60 is also payable by tenants receiving extra care. This allowance is a benefit that tenants must apply for and pay to Tai Cymdogaeth Extra Care Agency for the extra services they receive.
You may also have to pay a support charge of between £70-£110 a week; however, you may be eligible for a Supporting People Grant that would cover this charge.
Meals are not included in your rent, but we have a kitchen at both schemes where you can purchase food, or our team could help you cook your own meals in your own home.
